Oxford University, in conjunction with the Open Society Institute invites applications from scholars from selected countries in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, including MOLDOVA, who wish to work in the University libraries or to contact academic specialists in their subjects. The programme offers one-month visits in one of the Oxford colleges, mostly during the summer months (April 2008-March 2009). Scholars will normally be of post-doctoral or equivalent status, over the age of 26, and will be university teachers or members of research institutes.

Scholars receive free single accommodation and meals, plus small allowances for photocopying, books, and personal expenses. The cost of travel may also be met.

Applicants must have a good knowledge of spoken English. Priority will be given to those completing work for an advanced degree or working on a specific project such as a book or a new course of lectures, and to those who have not previously had a chance to study outside of Central and Eastern Europe or countries of the Former Soviet Union. Those who will have spent two months or more of academically related time in the West within the period 1 April 2006 and the start of their visit are not eligible.

All applications will undergo an initial assessment in the home country by local academic committee and representatives of the British Embassy. Short-listed candidates may be asked to attend an informal interview with a representative of the British Embassy.

Details and an application form can be obtained from the Educational Advising Center.

Applicants for the above-mentioned scholarship should complete the application form and return TWO COPIES of it to the Educational Advising Center, along with the required supporting materials except for the confidential references.
