Central European University was founded in 1991 with the explicit aim of helping the process of transition from dictatorship to democracy in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. While the university remains committed to its original aims of nurturing respect for diverse cultures and opinions, human rights, and of promoting the values of the Open Society, we now cast our web wider to include other parts of the world in our social mission. With candidates from 125 countries, and students from 80 countries, CEU creates a uniquely international atmosphere, without any national predominance. CEU is dedicated to providing personal attention for every student.
