Fellowships for Medical Educators
Faimer Institute Fellowship Program

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The FAIMER Institute is a two-year fellowship program designed for international medical school faculty who have the potential to play a key role in improving medical education at their schools. The first year consists of two residential sessions in the United States, and an intersession curriculum innovation project at the participant's home institution. The second year, completed from the Fellow's home country, involves mentoring an entering Fellow and also active engagement in the Institute internet discussion group. The program is uniquely designed to teach education methods and leadership skills, as well as to develop strong professional bonds with other medical educators around the world. The FAIMER Institute is sponsored by the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER), which is a nonprofit foundation of the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG®), in collaboration with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Twelve selected participants will travel to the Philadelphia area for a 17-day session the first year, return to their home institutions to complete an intersession project, and then travel back to the U.S. for a 10-day session the following year. Additionally, Fellows will interact with the previous class, and with the class succeeding them, during the residential sessions.
The on-line application must be submitted to FAIMER and all supporting documents must be received at FAIMER by: January 21, 2005.

Eligible areas of study include: educational methodology, curriculum design, and evaluation systems.
