The Embassy of the United States of America requests project proposals for the next round of the Democracy Commission Small Grants Program. Registered non-governmental organizations or independent media organizations are encouraged to submit proposals for projects that fall under the concept of "Get Out the Vote". We anticipate funding projects aimed at increasing voter participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections, educating citizens on the importance of voting, as well as helping first-time voters understand the electoral process and the technical aspects of voting. Possible activities include "voter parties" that target youth participation in the electoral process, issue-oriented discussions, organizing radio and television debates, and monitoring of national and local debates for fairness and balance. For events involving debate and discussion or the presentation of views on a particular issue, equal time or space must be provided to persons representing all major political parties and perspectives. Projects that target youth (age 18-30) are highly desirable. Innovative local projects will receive preference over large nationwide proposals. Collaboration between NGOs and local media outlets is encouraged.
